From installation to go-live in less than 30 days

(Newtown, Pa. – November 30, 2010) CenTrak, Inc., a leading provider of precise, adaptable and cost-effective Real Time Location Systems, announced that its technology was recently installed in Mission Hospital, located in Mission Viejo, California, in less than four weeks.

Enabling their patient care teams to spend more time with patients, Mission Hospital, a 552-bed hospital and one of three Orange County trauma centers, has reduced rentals, eliminated equipment loss/theft and minimized future capital purchases by decreasing time spent searching for and cleaning equipment. CenTrak partner VIZZIA received the equipment on April 10th, installed a complete room-level infrastructure, and tagged roughly 1,400 pieces of moveable medical equipment, in time for the start of VIZZIA’s Equipment Distribution Service on May 1st.

“We knew VIZZIA would meet our timeline, and the CenTrak infrastructure proved to be easy to install,” said Mike Kohler, Director of Materials Management at Mission Hospital. “In fact, the entire system was installed and up and running in just a few weeks.”

VIZZIA integrated its web-based VIZZION℠ information portal to the CenTrak RTLS infrastructure. The VIZZION software automatically identifies the location of the equipment from CenTrak’s RTLS and incorporates important alerts ensuring that desired procedures are being followed and that equipment inventory levels are properly maintained. VIZZIA also provides a well-trained team to distribute, pick-up and clean equipment and uses equipment movement data from CenTrak’s RTLS to optimize its stocking levels and operating procedures.

“Such non-disruptive, simple, successful installations resonate in the industry, and CenTrak’s RTLS is quickly becoming known for its fast-track deployment capabilities,” notes Wil Lukens, CenTrak Vice President of Business Development. “We are primarily known for our best-in-class accuracy and high speed performance; however, we are increasingly finding that hospitals are focused on the ease of installation as well.”

“In some cases, our customers can have the RTLS up and running in days,” he said. “The infrastructure is easy to install with no impact on network requirements or any need for in-room wiring, calibration, or tuning.”

Hospitals appreciate that CenTrak’s RTLS:

  • Offers easy installation. The mainly battery-powered components include smoke detector-size devices that simply snap to ceiling tiles in 30 seconds and are guaranteed to last from 5 to 10 years. Less accurate technologies require extra wiring for exciters or power outlets. These costly and distracting solutions also create infection hazards, which force hospitals to shut down rooms during the installation.
  • Creates no impact upon network requirements. CenTrak RTLS takes the burden for locating off the Wi-Fi network. Other technologies require Wi-Fi networks to be optimized for location, often necessitating a redesign of the wireless network, complete with outside services, additional Access Points, and other infrastructure components that could further impact mission-critical applications that rely on the wireless network.
  • Requires no calibration or tuning, since battery-powered location monitors and virtual walls use CenTrak’s Gen2IR™ to deliver room-level (and even bed-level) accuracy. This is valuable as other technologies require initial surveys and regular, time-consuming and continual costly calibration in each area where locating will occur.

CenTrak’s core RTLS differs from legacy technologies in its use of a patented combination of second-generation infrared (Gen2IR™) and active RFID technology. Using Gen2IR, battery-powered location monitors transmit a unique room number, which is received by any tag in that room. The tag communicates the room number and its own unique ID via RF to the CenTrak Location Server using a hospital’s existing wired or Wi-Fi network. Hospital personnel can access this information anywhere in real time.
